Michael Baron, MetsBlog.com:
Mar. 3: This is the last thing Nieuwenhuis needed, and really the last thing the team needed as well. The Mets were already forced to get creative in their outfield, and now they could be down one of their options for a period of time. From Nieweunhuis' perspective, he was struggling to begin with and he needed more consistent exposure to see what he could contribute. Hopefully this injury isn't severe and he can get back on the field over the next week.If this is an extensive injury ' and hopefully, it isn't ' I wonder what this means for Matt den Dekker. den Dekker has struggled as well this Spring ' he is 2-for-12 with six strikeouts ' but he has to be the next left-handed option in center field. One thing we've learned about den Dekker is his defense is more than ready for the big leagues. The big question for him is whether his offense will come around. That's going to depend on his ability to cut down on the strikeouts and make more consistent contact going forward. Hopefully some of the pitch tracking Dave Hudgens has him doing in camp will translate into better pitch recognition in games.
