Gavin Cecchini agrees to sign with Mets

SS Gavin Cecchini, the Mets first round pick (12th overall) in the 2012 first-year player draft, has agreed to terms with the Mets, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York.

June 8, 7:04 am: Quinn Roberts of MLB.com says Cecchini has signed for $2.3 million, $255,000 below the slot value for the 12th pick in the 2012 draft.

June 7, 7:18 pm: Cecchini missed the first six games of this season with tightness in his hamstrings, but came back and hit .413 with seven home runs, 32 RBI and 31 stolen bases during his senior year at Barbe High School in Louisiana this season.

Cecchini, who was originally committed to attend the University of Mississippi this fall, led the USA Baseball 18U National Team to the gold medal at the Pan American Championship in Colombia last fall.  He hit .500 with 17 RBI in 15 games during the tournament.

The recommended slot value for the 12th pick in this year's draft is $2.55 million.
