Final Score: Mets 3 Marlins 2

The Mets (69-83) defeated the Marlins (66-87) today by a score of 3-2.

The Least You Should Know:

Ruben Tejada delivered a walk off single with the bases loaded and two out in the ninth inning to secure a sweep for the Mets.

Chris Young threw six innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks. He struck out five and did not factor into the decision.

David Wright slugged his 19th home run of the season: a two-run shot in the first.

Ramon Ramirez, Manny Acosta, and Bobby Parnell combined for three hitless innings in relief.

This was the Mets' seventh straight win against the Marlins.

Nice game for Wright, who got the Mets on the board when he launched a Ricky Nolasco offering over the 385 mark in left center field and onto the Party City Deck. He also made a few slick defensive plays to further present his case for, what would be, his third career Gold Glove.

Scott Hairston flashed some leather as well when he made a leaping grab to rob Bryan Peterson of extra bases to end the seventh. Hairston had to battle the sun as we went back towards the Mo Zone in right field, but he was able to get a good enough read on it, leap, and haul it in to get Ramon Ramirez through the frame.

Kelly Shoppach committed a head-scratcher in the fifth inning. With the Marlins having already plated a run, they were still threatening with runners on the corners and two outs. Jose Reyes was at the plate and Gorkys Hernandez broke to swipe second. Interestingly, Shoppach chose to throw through despite the fact that the Mets were an out away from getting out of the inning. Shoppach air-mailed it into center field, and the error allowed Miami to plate the tying run. Reyes fouled out to Ruben Tejada two pitches later.
