Tim Byrdak will undergo surgery to repair a torn capsule in his left shoulder today, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York.
Byrdak will have the procedure performed at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan.
Byrdak also requires surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee - Byrdak had surgery to repair the meniscus in his left knee during Spring Training.
Tim Byrdak was placed on the 15-day disabled list on August 3 with a sore left shoulder. An MRI later revealed he had a torn anterior capsule in his shoulder - Byrdak was moved from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list yesterday.
Byrdak can become a free agent after this season. He made 56 relief appearances in 2012, during which he went 2-2 with a 4.40 ERA in 30 2/3 innings. He gave up 18 hits, 18 walks and 34 strikeouts while giving up 15 earned runs.
