Shannon Forde's fundraiser postponed to Nov. 29 due to Hurricane Sandy

Shannon Forde is the Senior Director of Media Relations for the Mets. She was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer in early August, but she continues to perform her duties with the Mets.

Matthew Cerrone: In 2006, when people were still very much skeptical of 'bloggers,' back when I couldn't get a single person on the phone to learn about press passes and arranging interviews, Shannon extended a helping hand and told me where to go. I've known her for many years now, she's become a good friend, I will always be grateful for her guidance, and I hope she gets the best treatment and recovery.

Michael Baron: Shannon is one of the nicest people I've ever met and she has been instrumental in my ability to provide content on this site, be it at the ballpark, in Port St. Lucie during camp, or while following the Minor League teams. I'm saddened by her condition and I'm hoping to attend the fundraiser to support her cause. My thoughts go out to her and her family, who I'm happy to hear is optimistic about her treatment plan despite a long road ahead'

The benefit for Shannon is in Woodland Park, N.J. and will raise money for Shannon's treatment. The benefit will include a dinner emceed by Ron Darling, and a meet-and-greet autograph session with Darryl Strawberry, Dwight Gooden, John Franco, Al Leiter, Ed Kranepool and Bob Ojeda.

Mets pick up 2013 options for David Wright, R.A. Dickey

The Mets have picked up the 2013 options for David Wright and R.A. Dickey, reports Jon Morosi and Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

The Mets held a $16 million option for Wright and a $5 million option for Dickey ' both can become free agents after the 2013 season.

The Mets had until tomorrow to execute their option on Wright and until Friday to execute their option on Dickey.

Michael Baron, MetsBlog.com

This isn't unexpected at all. There was no chance the Mets would decline their options on either. They're no-brainer, inexpensive options. The question now is when all parties will come to a resolution on extensions beyond 2013, and how these options will play into those potential new deals.

As I said earlier, I'm confident the Mets will get a deal done with Wright. However, I'm less optimistic about Dickey, and I can see the Mets try and deal him this winter. The team reportedly has concerns over his age, contract demands, and the wear and tear an 80 mph knuckleball is having on his arm. But the decision to extend or deal Dickey shouldn't come down to that. They would be in a better position to debate those issues if they were closer to a championship. Rather, it should be about whether or not Dickey's presence for the next few years makes them better, whether or not his presence makes the organization healthier, and whether or not he can help put the team on the quickest path to not only being successful in the short-term, but the ability to sustain success over the long-term.

Earlier today, CBS Sports' Jon Heyman said the Mets and Wright are engaged in discussions for a contract extension, but the negotiations are slow at this time.

Chase Headley wins the NL Gold Glove Award at third base

Chase Headley ' and not David Wright ' has won the National League Gold Glove Award at third base for the 2012 season.

David Wright was nominated for the award along with Headley, and Aramis Ramirez ' it would have been Wright's third Gold Glove in his career.

Wright finished the season with a .974 fielding percentage at third base and led the National League with 16 runs saved, both of which were career-highs.

In addition, Wright committed just ten errors at third base ' a career-best ' and his 15.4 UZR at third base led the league and was a career-high.

Michael Baron, MetsBlog.com

Wright got robbed on this one, as he did for the starting job in the All-Star Game. Headley's fielding percentage was slightly higher than Wright's (.003 points), but Wright led Headley in every advanced metric ' he should have won the award. In fact, in terms of UZR, Headley (6.0) wasn't close to Wright (15.4). It's disappointing because Wright was absolutely insane at third base this past year and had, by far, his best defensive season. He showed improved range, quickness and his throwing to first was much, much better than it has really ever been. To the eyes he was the best at the position, and statistically he was the best at the position. Yet, he didn't win the award'

Even though he didn't win, Wright at least put a lot of his prior defensive struggles to bed and reverted to his form from 2007 and 2008 at the position.
