Weekend Review, Standings & What's Next for the Mets

The Mets dropped 2 of 3 to the Padres this weekend in San Diego, but finished their 11-game road trip 6-5.

The Mets are off today, after which they open a three-game series with the Marlins at Citi Field on Tuesday night with Jon Niese facing Wade LeBlanc at 7:10 pm.

This past weekend, in case you missed it, Johan Santana pitched three scoreless innings (and three simulated innings) for Single-A Brooklyn. Terry Collins recently said that Santana would pitch next Saturday against the Braves at Citi Field, if all goes well.

According to Collins, Jeremy Hefner will move to the bullpen when Santana returns from the disabled list, while Matt Harvey will stay in the rotation and start Friday against the Braves.

Speaking of the rotation, Terry Collins said Friday he does not intend to use RA Dickey on four days rest during the next couple turns in the rotation, because the team is off today and next Monday.

Also, this past weekend, the Mets signed RHP Scott Patterson to a minor league contract; Tim Byrdak was put on the disabled list Friday night with a sore shoulder; and Frank Francisco returned to get a save on Saturday night.
