Terry Collins said yesterday that Johan Santana will not open the second half against the Braves on Friday.
Instead, Santana will either start next Sunday or next Tuesday against the Nationals, as the team tries to get him an extra rest for his ankle.
Santana was injured at a play at first base in the fifth inning of Friday's when Reed Johnson stepped on his ankle. Santana said after that game he was fine and he wasn't thinking about the injury after that inning, although he was ineffective after the incident occurred.
Collins said Dillon Gee will start instead of Santana on Friday, followed by R.A. Dickey on Saturday.
'He's fine. Don't misread anything,' Collins said after yesterday's game. 'We just want to make sure that he's 100 percent when we come out of the break. We haven't decided if he's going to pitch Game three or four in Washington yet. We thought with the medical staff, we wanted to make sure his ankle was 100 percent.'
