The shift in Mets attitude has brought change to their NL East rivalry against the Phillies, Andy Martino explains in today's Daily News.

Reggie Jackson said in an interview with Sports Illustrated that he doesn't think Gary Carter and other players are deserving of being in the Hall of Fame. According to Brian Lewis of the New York Post, several former Mets came to Carter's defense, including Kieth Hernandez who said, 'I think that he deserves to be in. I'm glad that he's in, so I'll disagree with Reggie and keep it at that.'

The never-say-die Mets are taking their cue from David Wright, George Willis explains in the New York Post. As such, given where they are in the standings, Matthew Leach of MLB.com thinks Wright is making an early case for MVP.

Matthew Cerrone: According to the Mets, David Wright has seven game-ending RBI in his career, which is one short of the franchise record set by Kevin McReynolds. I hate to use him as a comparison, but, as far as I can tell, the perceived King of Clutchness in New York, Derek Jeter, only has two. This is funny to me because it seems like just yesterday I had to sift through comments and e-mails telling me Wright was 'not clutch,' whatever that even means. Actually, I don't want to debate the 'state of clutchness,' as if any one RBI is more important than another. Instead, I think we can all agree that Wright has been fantastic this season. Period. You, me and all of baseball know he's the best third baseman in the National League right now, despite what happened with the All Star voting, and he's clearly an MVP candidate at this early stage of the season. He's timing this perfect, actually, since he'll likely find himself in contract talks after this season, as the Mets look to extend his contract and keep him from being a free agent the following off season. The Mets would not seem right without Wright, and he proved that in bulk with last night's exciting moment'
