Mets likely to keep Dickey, but extension not guaranteed

In a report for Newsday, Marc Carig says the Mets are likely to keep R.A. Dickey this winter, although a contract extension is not guaranteed.

'This represents a shift in thinking from the winter meetings, when trading Dickey looked just as likely as retaining him,' Carig writes.

However, a person familiar with the team's thinking there's no guarantee the team will extend Dickey's contract.

In addition, Carig says if the trade market opens up after Zack Greinke signs, better trade offers from teams could follow which could result in Dickey being dealt.
